How energy choice works
In a deregulated electricity market, the company that delivers your power and the company that supplies it can be different. Your regulated utility keeps the wires, poles, meters and outage response. A licensed retail supplier provides the energy itself.
The supply portion is the part subject to retail choice. That's the portion PowerRelief helps you investigate. Delivery charges are regulated and do not change when you switch suppliers.
If you enroll with a supplier, the rate, term and any cancellation conditions are disclosed before you authorize anything on a recorded third-party verification call. Nothing changes on your account until you say so.
The one lever
You can't vote on a data center.
You can change your supply rate.
Your bill has two halves. Delivery pays for the poles, wires, meters and crews — that's your utility, it's regulated, and nobody can change it. Supply pays for the electricity itself, and in the seven markets we serve that half was deregulated years ago so you could shop it.
Most households have never shopped it. They're on whatever default rate their utility assigns, which moves with exactly the wholesale pressure described above.
Nothing about your service changes. Same utility, same wires, same outage crew, same bill. Only the supply line reads differently.
